Ovelar, a leading sleeve shrink manufacturing company, has won three Liderpark Awards: best beverage packaging and “Best in Show” for its sleeve for the new Ruavieja Cremosa Light, and best “Premium Pack” for the sleeve of Macieira Cream, both Pernod Ricard products.
These are two 100% recyclable packaging, both for the material of the bottle (translucent glass) and for the material and finish of the sleeve used. Ovelar has developed these sleeves with pioneering labelling made from 100% recyclable white PET, which makes it clearly different from any other heat-shrinkable plastic material, as its density is 0.98 g/cm3 when the standard range is between 1.30-1.38 g/cm3, i.e. 25% lower. Therefore, these sleeves have greater buoyancy, which facilitates subsequent recycling. In addition, it has light blocking properties of up to 80%, which means that it does not require the use of painted glass.
This type of sleeves, being made with white material of origin, do not require white ink (reducing an estimated consumption of more than one tonne of ink), thus also reducing the use of titanium dioxide, the most polluting ink, and incorporating a pre-cut to facilitate its removal and complete separation from the bottle. All this has been achieved without compromising the quality or finish of the sleeve.
Finally, it should be noted that, with this labelling, the Ruavieja brand bottle has reduced its weight by 100 grams, which is equivalent to an annual saving of 286 tonnes of CO2, thus helping, as we have mentioned, to reduce the use of raw materials, the energy used in its manufacture and the carbon dioxide emissions associated with its transport.
