Plastics Europe and EuPC launch European Operation Clean Sweep certification scheme

Packnet echoes Alimarket‘s publication on the launch of the European Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) certification scheme by our Packnet partner, Plastics Europe together with EuPC.

Plastics Europe, the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe, and EuPC, the Association of European Plastics Converters, have announced the launch of the harmonised European Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) certification scheme. Adding this new tool to those already available under OCS is a milestone for the programme and a further step towards the ultimate goal of zero pellet loss to the environment. The programme was developed to help companies address slurry leakage by providing a number of key recommendations and tools. The first European certification scheme for pellet loss prevention, which will be operational from next February, will further strengthen it by creating harmonised processes and procedures for monitoring and documenting pellet losses throughout the plastics supply chain.

What will this scheme allow?
The scheme will allow all companies adhering to the OCS and any other entity handling pellets along the supply chain to assess and quantify their implementation of the OCS commitment. It will establish common minimum requirements (based on the six pillars of the OCS commitment) that will be regularly audited by accredited certification bodies. Certified companies will be included in an online Public Register and will be reported annually on the development of the certification, including estimates of grain loss and performance indicators.

Hervé Millet, Plastics Europe‘s Climate and Production Director, said: “The launch of the OCS Europe certification scheme is an important step to further enhance the impact of the Operation Clean Sweep programme and support our members and their value chains to prevent pellet loss. Plastics producers are strongly committed to implement this certification in their facilities in Europe and to encourage their value chain partners to do the same.”
